Fountain Valley Green Belt

CYCLE ORANGE COUNTY, ROAD RIDE, FOUNTAIN VALLEY GREEN BELT This bike ride begins at Westmont Park and travels through a series of connected parks that make up a giant greenbelt. This straight, mostly flat stretch is a favorite of joggers and dog walkers. From there you will ride on bike paths along city streets. There are a couple of modest climbs on this ride and one especially fun descent on Edwards Street. The bike ride finishes at Westmont Park, so bring a soccer ball or Frisbee and enjoy a restful, play day at the park. This route passes two entrances into Huntington Beach’s Central Park. With 350 acres to explore, two lakes, a disc golf course, an equestrian center, a sports complex and the Central Library, this park could keep you entertained all day. In the park, along Goldenwest Street, is the Park Bench Café, a quaint restaurant with outdoor tables arranged near the lake. The library sits atop a hill overlooking the park and while libraries and bike rides don’t usually go together, the view from inside is worth a quick stop. Although most of the ride is a well maintained path there are a few areas that are hard packed dirt. The section just after Talbert is also rather steep. For experienced riders this should pose no problem but for small children or the inexperienced it is recommended that you walk your bike. FOOD AND DRINK There are many options along the way or perhaps take along a picnic to enjoy along the way. At Central Park off of Westminster there is the Park Bench Café for breakfast or lunch. ACCESS By bus, OCTA bus 76 stops along Talbert Avenue and 72 runs along Warner Avenue. By car, take Interstate 405 to Warner Avenue and exit west. Travel a half mile and turn left on Rose Street, then a right on El Rancho Avenue.
