CYCLE CHICAGO, SIGHTSEEING RIDE, WATERFALL GLEN TRAIL & ARGONNE LAP A great bike ride with a tremendous amount of plant and animal diversity and even some topographical diversity – yes, hills, which are so hard to find in Chicagoland. This trail in Lemont loops the lab. It runs through a forest preserve that encircles the Argonne National Laboratory, one of Chicagoland’s greatest assets and a leading federally funded research and development center. Other manmade features along the way include an historic sawmill as well as three quarry ponds and a waterfall. There’s plenty to see, so don’t be in a hurry. FOOD AND DRINK Water along the way but no food or restaurants. ACCESS The Lemont station on Metra’s Heritage Corridor Line is two miles south of the forest preserve, but not convenient to the trailhead of this ride. By car, take Interstate 55 to Cass Avenue going south. Make a quick right on Northgate Road, the second intersection after exiting the interstate. Then take another quick right onto the first road, which is marked “Ski/Equestrian Trail Head Area.”
