Pittock Mansion to Council Crest via Washington Park

CYCLE PORTLAND, ROAD RIDE, PITTOCK MANSION TO COUNCIL CREST VIA WASHINGTON PARK This bike ride will take you to three of the highest points in Portland. Pittock Mansion sits about 1,000 feet above sea level . Washington Park is a very popular place for its museums, the Oregon Zoo, and gardens. And the highest peak in Portland is found at the summit of Council Crest Park where five mountain peaks can be viewed. Each of these locations has numerous hiking trails where you can wander through the beautiful Oregon woods. The second peak of the bike ride is at Washington Park where the extremely popular Oregon Zoo is located. The bike ride up to Washington Park begins with a very steep section of road and then levels off a bit. As you descend the hill from Washington Park, you will be able to see the red and white tower that sits atop Council Crest, the next and highest peak of this bike ride. From the summit you can view five snow-capped mountain peaks and 3,000 miles of land. Council Crest Park is a great place for the view of the city, the mountains, and for picnicking on the grassy hillside. Side Trip NW 23rd Avenue has interesting restaurants and boutiques; Pittock Mansion and the grounds; Washington Park has the Hoyt Arboretum, the Children’s Museum and the Oregon Zoo. Down the hill from Washington Park are the Japanese Garden, the International Rose Garden, and monuments to the Holocaust and the Vietnam War. FOOD AND DRINK Restaurants and cafés at Sylvan Hill, and again in the NW 23rd Avenue area about a block from the entrance to Washington Park. Drinking fountains at Council Crest and restrooms at Washington Park and Pittock Mansion. ACCESS By car, take Exit 71B off US 26 West; right onto Skyline Boulevard, left onto SW Montgomery Street, left onto SW 58th, continue straight to SW 61st Drive. Onstreet parking. By public transportation, take Bus #58 toward Beaverton to Sylvan Hills or take the MAX train to Washington Park and ride down to Sylvan Hills. Access the SW Canyon Court from the bike/pedestrian path down the hill toward Beaverton. Take a right at the cut out in the concrete wall. Go right up the hill and find SW 61st Drive on the left.
