Captain's Flat to Majors Creek

Captains Flat to Majors Creek, primarily good quality unsealed road suitable for mountain bikes or cyclo cross. The ride starts in Captains Flat, an old mining town, that in future will be one end of the Molonglo Rail Trail to be built on the old rail line that took ore from the Captains Flat mines to Bungendore. The town offers self-guided tours of the old mines and a look at the pub is recommended, at one time possessing the longest bar in the southern hemisphere. Following the signed route to Braidwood, the rider climbs out of the Molonglo River valley on an unsealed road and soon enters Tallaganda National Park with tall eucalypts on both sides of the road. The road levels out here with occasional grazing properties providing open views back to the mountains in the Park. The road then descends to the Shoalhaven River valley where the river is crossed on a sealed road. The rider turns off onto the signed unsealed road to Majors Creek with bush alternating with grazing properties. The Majors Creek pub provides a refreshing stopping point.
