Slippery When Wet
Slippery when wet is a technical 6.5 mile loop in the McCoy flats trail system. There are loose rocks, off camber turns, rocky ascents, rocky descents and a few good rock drops. I would recommend this ride for skilled intermediates, you can always walk the features you don't feel comfortable riding.
Overall there is 570 feet of elevation gain. Some of the climbs are steep and you'll need to work your weight onto the back wheel in order to make it up. This loop is one of the best trails in the McCoy system. It starts at the corral, you cruise west down to a split where you will take a right. The rocky stuff will begin there. You meander up and down along the back side of a mesa eventually climbing the mesa for a good descent.
Beware the corners on the descent they have loose rocks on them and your tires will move around a bit. I recommend running tubeless with low pressure in order to maximize grip, however you still need to run enough air to protect your rims on the slickrock.
You can camp right at the McCoy Flats Corral. There is a restroom but no water or power.
Vernal is located right on highway 40 which runs from east to west from Denver, CO to Salt Lake City, UT.
You could also fly into Salt Lake City, UT which has an international airport and then rent a car to drive to Vernal. (Approx 2.5 hrs.) Keep in mind there are no bike rentals in Vernal so you will need to bring your bike or rent one in Salt Lake City.
There are several hotels in Vernal I would recommend one of the 2 Marriots, Comfort Inn, Landmark Inn, and Ledgestone Inn. I have personally stayed at the Marriot, and the Landmark. Both hotels were great!
The local bike shop is Altitude Cycle. Altitude has alwasy been great to me. They can do repairs, maintenance, have great prices on bikes and often do sales. You can pickup whatever you need there and the staff is great. Let them know Kyle sent you!
