On the edge of the Great Dividing Range escarpment, about 1,000 metres above sea level, lies the small, friendly and increasingly creative country town of Dorrigo. Once upon a time the highlight was the drive there via Waterfall Way, one of Australia’s most scenic roads winding through and by the World Heritage-listed Gondwana Rainforests of Australia’s, Dorrigo National Park.  However today Dorrigo has become a destination in itself with a real creative buzz. Four times a year the main street of this picturesque town becomes the Made in Dorrigo Market Everything at the market is of a high quality, lovingly and skilfully made by artists and artisans and is guaranteed to be grown, manufactured or produced in the Dorrigo 2453 post code. However increasingly there is more and more to see and do whenever you come to Dorrigo. You can start at the local museum and get a sense of the history of Dorrigo which is still so obvious in the townscape. Specialist galleries and shops focus on the unique, from quilts and wrought iron to handmade jewellery and leatherworks. Local cafes feature local artwork and home wares and even the bistro at the Club has exhibitions. Combine these with overflowing bric a brac from the corner “antiques” store and country shops brimming with country hospitality and you will begin to see why more and more creative people are making Dorrigo their home Dorrigo also hosts several major festivals during the year including the well established Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival and Café Readings, an event related to the Bellingen Writers Festival. Other events include the Grassroots Writers Festival and the Creative Mountain Art Exhibition.
