ACT GOVERNMENT - PARK AND PEDAL INITIATIVE
Many Canberrans live too far away from work to regularly commute by bike the whole way. The ACT Government's Park & Pedal initiative allows Canberrans to drive their car part-way to work, park their car for free, and pedal the remainder of the journey. Park & Pedal complements other part-way active travel schemes already underway in the ACT including the Park and Ride and Bike and Ride facilities. The first Park & Pedal location in the ACT is being trialled at the Lindsay Pryor National Arboretum carpark on Barrenjoey Drive, just off the Tuggeranong Parkway. This is an ideal location as it is only 30 minutes comfortable ride from the City and Woden, and also from the National Triangle and Barton precincts. A coffee van is located at the carpark every morning between 6:30am and 9:15am. The scheme here in the ACT is an Australian first, drawing on the success of similar schemes internationally, including in the US, Canada and the UK. In Boston, there are now more than 30 carparks identified for the Park & Pedal scheme, with the numbers of people choosing this option continually growing. Further details can be found at -

A summary from their website of this information is provided below. Bike & Ride allows you to lock your bicycle in a bike cage, locker, or on a bike rail during the day and catch an ACTION bus to complete your journey. Bike cages are secure shelters available to MyWay cardholders who simply swipe their MyWay card to open the door and can place their bike on one of the racks inside. Bike lockers are the most secure option when combining bike and bus travel. Passengers are required to supply their own lock to ensure the locker remains secure. Bike rails are installed at over 15 bus stop locations. You will need to provide a secure lock. Most Blue Rapid and Red Rapid buses are equipped with bike racks that hold your bike while you're travelling by bus.
