ACT GOVERNMENT - PARK AND PEDAL INITIATIVE

Many Canberrans live too far away from work to regularly commute by bike the whole way. The ACT Government's Park & Pedal initiative allows Canberrans to drive their car part-way to work, park their car for free, and pedal the remainder of the journey. Park & Pedal complements other part-way active travel schemes already underway in the ACT including the Park and Ride and Bike and Ride facilities. The first Park & Pedal location in the ACT is being trialled at the Lindsay Pryor National Arboretum carpark on Barrenjoey Drive, just off the Tuggeranong Parkway. This is an ideal location as it is only 30 minutes comfortable ride from the City and Woden, and also from the National Triangle and Barton precincts. A coffee van is located at the carpark every morning between 6:30am and 9:15am. The scheme here in the ACT is an Australian first, drawing on the success of similar schemes internationally, including in the US, Canada and the UK. In Boston, there are now more than 30 carparks identified for the Park & Pedal scheme, with the numbers of people choosing this option continually growing.
