Biking in Minneapolis

Minneapolis is the county seat of Hennepin County, and the larger of the Twin Cities, United States.

Riding a bicycle is one of the most popular ways to get around Minneapolis. The city boasts 120 miles of what it calls “on-street bikeways” and 90 miles of off-street lanes. The latter is less interesting for urban cycling, but Minneapolis is quickly becoming the go-to city in America for building infrastructure. The City of Minneapolis helps those who live and work in the city use bicycles as a safe, healthy and low-cost way to travel. It’s no wonder that despite scorching summers and subzero winters, thousands of locals bike the city for commuting and recreation year-round. In fact, Riding a bicycle is one of the most popular ways to get around Minneapolis.

The city has also been awarded with the Gold Level Bicycle Friendly Community Award from the League of American Bicyclists.

Minneapolis' growing network of bike lanes and a well-used bike share program have landed the city on yet another list of bike-friendly communities, and this time, it's the only U.S. city to rank among the world's top cities for cyclists.
