With such breadth of forest, nature reserves, recreation areas and national parks on Canberra’s doorstep, and together with quiet country roads and villages, including across the surrounding regions, there are myriad bikepacking opportunities across various distances and levels of difficulties.

Bikepacking can be done in a number of ways, from being entirely self-sufficient and carrying camping gear, stove and food, to credit-card bikepacking whilst touring from one town to the next and using local pubs, hotels and other services along the way. A touring bike, with plenty of bolt points to attach panniers for everything you’ll need to carry, is ideal.

We're also proud that the Australian and New Zealand Women's Bikepacking group is based in Canberra. You can contact local knowledgeable group leader, Amy, here.

Some ride options include:

  • Canberra via Picadilly Circus to Tumut and return
  • Canberra to the Coast via Captains Flat
  • Numerous routes through neighbouring shires of Yass, Upper Lachlan and Goulburn-Mulwaree
