Mountain biking

Time to hit the trails? You've come to the right place!

Mountain bikers of all levels are well catered for in Canberra, with numerous distinct mountain bike destinations including Stromlo Forest Park, Majura Pines, Sparrow Hill and more. Stromlo Forest Park, laying claim to having hosted numerous national and international mountain bike championships, is a mecca for those who prefer their bike riding a bit more grubby and thrilling.

Stromlo Forest Park – A unique bike park experience on Canberra’s doorstep

The Stromlo Forest Park is - in many ways - the jewel in the crown for Canberra's mtb scene. Located approximately 15km from the City Centre it offers a world-class mountain bike experience.

We recommend you wear protection gear such as knee pads, gloves, or a full-face, and ensure to bring snacks and water to keep you going throughout the day.

The shared use park welcomes runners, horse-riders and bike fanatics. It boasts more than 50k of custom-designed cross-country trails, as well as dirt jumps and dedicated zones for every skill level.

Majura Pines

The Majura Pines trails, located to the east of Canberra off the Majura Parkway, are some the oldest and most famous in Canberra, catering for a wide range of skills and abilities. There are currently over 20km of mapped and sign posted trails for all abilities including those for beginners, cross country trails, flow trails, technical cross country, all mountain, downhill and dirt jumps. Further information is available at: http://www.majurapines.org/

Centenary Trail

Do as much or as little as you like. Stretching for 145km, the Centenary Trail provides a loop linking urban and rural environments past iconic sites and hidden treasures. Cyclists are able to join or leave the trail in many locations, following fire trail, tracks and shared paths.

Popular sections that we recommend are from Forde to Hall and return.

Zoo Pines

Family still feeding the tigers but you’ve got itchy feet and adrenaline rushing through your veins? Grab your bike and head for the hills! Not really. You don’t have far to go at all. Right behind the National Zoo and Aquarium are five short purpose-built mtb trails at Zoo Pines.

Bruce Ridge

So close to the City Centre and with so much to offer, Bruce Ridge is an ideal quick escape.

Isaacs Ridge

Isaacs Ridge trails are perfect for those staying southside, with technically challenging trails, graded as ‘very difficult’ and ‘extremely difficult’.

Pine Island

From Pine Island you can head north or south alng the Murrumbidgee River, on trails of varying lengths to suit whatever timeframes you have.
