Melbourne by bike

The best bicycle adventures and cycling vacations in Melbourne

Melbourne, the coastal capital of the southeastern Australian state of Victoria, is considered the country’s greatest cycling city. And there should be no doubt about it!

Look at the cycling network on map and you know you are riding to the right place. There are over 135 kilometers of on-road and off-road routes for you to go out, get active, and explore the city the way you like.

Ride and capture the gorgeous sights on Capital City Trail, feel the calves burn on fantastic rail trails from downtown to Warburton, or slopes very gently down to the Bay, or maybe skirt along the coast to cafes and through a number of green spaces. Push your wheels even further to the St Kilda foreshore or on to the beautiful beaches of the Peninsula. Whether you’re looking for a scenic ride or a total smash fest, Melbourne has it all.

You will soon find yourself among thousands of riders cruising down Beach Road or rocking themselves in the Dandenongs. It is a fact that the lovely Melbourne, where is full of laneways and street art, coffee and culture, would not feel right without bike riders everywhere in the city.

Hop on and clip in because it is time to explore the city and its surrounds on two wheels.

When to go

Melbourne is always fun no matter what time of the year you come. It all depends on your interest to find out what month is the best time.

Summer (December to March) is a hot but pleasant time, and is ideal for outdoor activities. This is also the peak season, booking in advance is always a wise choice.

Autumn (March to May) is Melbourne Food and Wine Festival time. A fantastic time to venture to the west coast of Victoria and ride down the road to enjoy best beach views in the country.

Winter (June to August): now this is the coldest time of the year, which obviously less people and lower costs. You can explore many hidden secrets: from different laneways with colorful street art, to bars you’ll stumble upon.

Spring (September to November): perfect outdoors and mind-blowing art. Melbourne Festival in October is a world-renowned celebration that worth a visit. Spring is great for cycling out of town to Victoria’s wine country, the Yarra Valley.
