Cycling in St Petersburg
St Petersburg may not come to mind as one of Europe’s top bicycle friendly cities, but this is starting to change with the introduction of bike paths in some part of the city and an increasing number of people on bikes to get around this beautiful city. And why not – it’s a surprisingly easy way to get around, with the city compact and flat, and a bike share scheme in place for easy hiring of bikes for short trips to and from, and between attractions.
Some great cycling options are through the City Parks and along the banks of the Neva River.
A note of warning to be aware and always on guard of other vehicles sharing the road.
When to go
The best time to ride a bike in St Petersburg is on the weekends, when the traffic is not quite so busy, and in the summer and fall months (May to October).
