Biking in Minnesota
Cycling in Minnesota
Minnesota may not have high mountain ranges, but neither is it as flat as you might think. There are several ranges of hills and over 500 meters (1,600 feet) of elevation change between the highest and lowest points in the state.
Despite having cold winters, it’s also a popular cycling state. Both it’s largest city, Minneapolis, and the state of Minnesota overall regularly rank at or close to the top of ‘most cycling friendly’ lists produced by cycling magazines and organisations. For example in 2017 Minnesota ranked second of all 50 states in the League of American Bicyclists state rankings. It was behind Washington State but ahead of more famous cycling states such as Oregon, Colorado and California.
