Biking in Harrisonburg

Mountain biking in Harrisonburg

Located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, Harrisonburg is the gem of the region. This tiny but mighty metro city has many different names, affectionately bestowed by those who know and love this place: “Rocktown”, “the Friendly City, and “the Bike Capital of Virginia”. No matter what you call it, Harrisonburg is recognized by everyone as a hospitable city offering brilliant mountain biking trails and fine full-service bike shops.

In recent years, the city has earned two honorable titles – as a Bicycle Friendly Community (awarded by the League of American Bicyclists) and as a Bronze Level IMBA Ride Center (awarded by the International Mountain Biking Association). It's also home to an IMBA EPIC Ride - the Southern Traverse.

Such achievement is a tribute to all the hard work of the Shenandoah Valley Bicycle Coalition who takes the main role in transforming the town into a bike destination via their advocacy work.

Mountain biking trails in and around Harrisonburg can be divided into four groups: GWNF West of Town, GWNF North of Town, Massanutten Resort, and trails in Town.
