Farnham to Itchenor

Landlocked Farnham down to the Witterings, and then back to Itchenor is a fantastic ride if you want to get down to the coast for lunch time without having to leave Farnham too early.

I treated myself to this ride on my birthday and hadn't ridden specific sections of the ride before.

The route starts in Farnham and heads south through Rowledge Village and Frensham, to Frensham pond and then up to Churt the back way. These are predominantly rural roads with little traffic (once you get south of Rowledge) and allow you to take in the beauty of the countryside before you start the first major climb of the day. When you get to Churt crossroads, take a right and start the climb up to Hindhead. It's not brutal (that will come later) but it will open your lungs for sure.

When you reach Hindhead you have a lovely descent down in to Haslemere, and once you have passed through Haslemere there's a cheeky right-hand turn (I missed it the first time)  just after the train station that takes you up a short but VERY sharp climb that is only about 300 meters but is very very  steep.

Once over that lump you can continue to head down towards Fernhurst on the Midhurst road. Once through Fernhurst there is a left turn at the Aspinal's Head Office which takes you off the main road and up the brutal climb of the day, up Henley Steep towards Henley Hill. The gradient gets to pretty horrifying levels on that climb, but rest in the knowledge that once you have got over it, the hardest parts of the ride are done, almost....

Carry on down through Midhurst and Cocking, where you'll soon be greeted with your final climb of the ride at Singleton, climbing up to Goodwood and the glorious Goodwood horse racing track.

Beyond Goodwood it's all downhill from there past Chichester and down towards the Witterings. This ride takes you as far as the East Wittering point, before turning you round and heading to Itchenor where you are greeted by the smell of the sea and a hearty lunch at The Ship Inn. Perfect!
