Prospect Park is a prominent spot in Brooklyn, New York. It offers plenty of child-friendly attractions and a dedicated bike lane at all times that you might want to explore.

The Prospect Park Loop is a picturesque loop that runs along the interior perimeter. This loop is a heavily trafficked loop trail which also features a lake and is good for all skill levels.

Access

Citi Bike can be a convenient and affordable way to access Prospect Park. Grab a bike from one of the five stations surrounding the park when want to start pedaling:

  • Grab a Citi Bike at the Grand Army Plaza & Plaza St West station.
  • Enter the park on West Drive, then bear right as you connect to Park Drive, the main loop that runs the perimeter of Prospect Park.
  • Ride south down the Drive, traveling along the west side of the park in a counterclockwise direction until you hit the southern border of the park. 
  • Stay on the Drive, around Prospect Park Lake, continuing up the east side of the park.
  • Follow the Drive to the northernmost part of the Park, where you will complete your loop and can exit the park to return your bike.

Prospect Park is a national landmark and an international model for urban parks. It is also a home to the bulk of Brooklyn’s remaining indigenous forest, as well as its only lake.

Note that Prospect Park is car-free all weekends and during the weekdays:

  • West Drive (Southbound): All hours except 5pm – 7pm
  • East Drive (Northbound): All hours except 7am – 9am

The loop around the park offers numerous activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also welcome to this path but must be kept on leash.

There are a number of activities and event in this park throughout the year. You can bring a ball and play in an open field, or watch dogs frolic at dog beach, or simply enjoy the fresh air on your bike. In summer, the bandshell at 9th St., near the Harmony Playground, hosts concerts and dance performances.
