Red Hill Express

Are you a local Canberran or visiting Canberra for a business trip and looking for a local bunch ride?

The Red Hill Express departs every Friday morning from the Red Hill Express, Dufyken Street, Red Hill promptly at 5:45am sharp. Please arrive early for the ride briefing, including information from the ride leaders on sprint, pace-line and hill climb sections. 

This is a 'no-one-gets-dropped' ride, with a general guide for riders that the group tends to average around 28-30kph, regrouping at various points.

It is recommended that riders have some prior bunch-riding experience or are at least familiar with common bunch-riding etiquette, signals and know-how.

The bunch leaves from the Red Hill Shops, and travels down Mugga Way, turning right onto Adelaide Avenue. Turning left off Adelaide Avenue and once past the round-about on Flynn Drive is the first sprint section of around 1km past the Hyatt Hotel. The bunch then regroups before continuing along King Edward Terrace and over Kings Avenue Bridge.

Once off the Bridge and onto Parkes Way, the bunch develops a fast pace-line, often splitting here into two groups towards Lady Denman Drive. At this point, the bunch regroups before doubling back along Parkes Way, at a more leisurely pace, to cross over Commonwealth Avenue Bridge and back to the Southside of Canberra.

The group continues as a bunch over some gentle rolling hills into Yarralumla before turning onto Mugga Way. 

The hill climb of Mugga Way is a popular one for many Canberra bunch rides, and the Red Hill Express is no exception, with an 'every man for himself' effort right to the top of Mugga Way before recovering back down to finish back at the Red Hill Express and shopping centre.

Riders are then welcome to stay for coffee and a social catch-up. 

This one is a great start to a Friday morning, with a friendly and welcoming bunch.

All riders who join this group are expected to have some insurace cover. Please note that, while there are ride leaders for this group, it is a social group ride, not a sanctioned ride by a club and insurance cover is not provided by the ride leaders.
