The Divide Trail / Mountain View
The Divide Trail / Mountain View is a signature mountain trail of Steamboat Springs, stretching from Rabbit Ears to the base of Steamboat Ski Area.
This trail is a point to point Steamboat classic route that offers more than 20 miles of classic high-country Colorado singletrack, stunning scenery and super fun descending on Mount Werner.
Divide Trail provides distance, several ups and downs and one big drop at the end. It's mostly singletrack, and some sections get rocky and twisty.
There's parking available at the Rabbit Ears trailhead at Dumont Lake. The Wyoming Trail takes an immediate left, and runs along the campground.
Food and drink
Riding this trail would take you around 4 hours to conquer, so make sure to hydrate before and throughout the trip. Bring water, snacks and extra layers.
Jump on this trail from the parking lot at the Rabbit Ears trailhead. Ride along the campground as doubletrack on the north side of Dumont Lake. Head toward Buffalo Mountain in the northwest. Meet a singletrack and ride parallel to Base Camp Road.
You'll catch a fun, twisty drop that will finish at a creek and then climb to Fishhook Lake. This section between Base Camp trailhead and Long Lake is pretty rugged. Remember to turn left at the intersection for Lake Elmo Trail; lots of people miss this one.
Gradually climb west and experience some loose switchbacks followed by a forest and another climb. Slow down and enjoy the magnificent views across Rabbit Ears Pass.
Stay left at the Storm Peak lift, and turn right onto Pete’s Wicked Trail. You will then reach Sunshine and drop down to stunning aspens and Chisholm Tail. Move fast to the Thunderhead gondola and take a break.
Ride down Spur Run and turn right to get back onto singletrack. The route can be a little more sloping. Watch out for some rocky portions. You will then swing through a slabby section of granite connecting to several switchbacks. The lower sections of Valley View are fast with a couple of rolling sections. Valley View ends at a service road. You will then finish the trail on the flowy trails of Wrangler Gulch and EZ Rider.
