It’s not an overstatement: this ride really is one of a kind.
Pocahontas State Park has some of the most amazing trails near Richmond, and The Lakeview Loops is the spotlight of the whole area. This medium-length trail has everything you long for on a mountain biking trail. And with the trail located along the river, the atmosphere is cool and pleasant for a nice weekend bike ride.
Lakeview Loops is special for its diverse features. There are a couple of water crossings, flowing sections, sustained climbs, and a few obstacles to heat up the ride.
While the first two loops are quite easy, the third loop will test your riding skills. This is the fastest section which has the longest climb and most challenges. Loop III starts with a series of quick drops to very short bridges. There are also lots of the fast and short crossings followed by steep climbs.
The main park entrance is off Beach Rd. The parking lot is available at the newly located Nature Center just to the right at the greeting station. Ride down the road toward the campgrounds until you turn right into the woods immediately after the wood splitting shed. Follow the trail straight in.
