Ipanema to Niterói
The cycling path runs from Ipanema, follows Rio’s shore to Niteroi, offering best seaside panoramas in the city. It passes Copacabana, Botafogo, and Flamengo, before entering the bustling Centro. A ferry will bring you and your bike to the other side of Guanabara Bay.
Just right at the starting point, you may get spoiled at the Stone Arpoador – the scenic peninsula with fantastic sunset views from its green paths – and the crescent-shaped beach of Copacabana. The route then meanders around the eastern coastline of Rio de Janeiro, shows off city’s landscape beauty, which combines glorious beaches and mighty mountains.
Traverse through the sprawling park of Flamengo, you will find yourself immersed in the hustling town Centro, where you escape the land and float on sea to Niteroi. The ending point is Niterói Contemporary Art Museum.
The route totals 14 miles and you can expect to be finished in around two hours, but take your time, enjoy what Rio offers. The whole morning is still not enough to ride if you love this coastline.
The whole route is relatively flat and runs on smooth terrain. Bicycle lanes are well paved maintained.
The southeast top of land is where the ride begins. This map suggests starting from Stone Arpoador. Follow the road to the coastline and head north.
Food and drink
No need to go around and find a restaurant, the MAC Bistro, located in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Niteroi will satisfy you.
If you would love to try something from the locals, stop by Adega do Cesare, a family-friendly place that serves Brazilian, Portuguese and Italian food and they have a wine cellar.
There are so many beaches and parks that we can’t even count! If you have more time, jump off the route and ride to some special spots such as Copacabana Fort at Copacabana, Red Beach in Urca, and Museum of Tomorrow in Centro.
