Bike Walk Mississippi serves as the STATEWIDE bicycle and pedestrian nonprofit advocacy group in Mississippi.
We work on behalf of pedestrians and bicyclists to advocate for increased programs, policies and infrastructure that support a bike-able, walkable and more livable Mississippi.
Bike Walk Mississippi is a 501c3 nonprofit, incorporated by public citizens in 1993 when our founders saw the need for a statewide voice to stand up for the rights of bicyclists and pedestrians in Mississippi. Our Board members and supporters live in all parts the state, allowing Bike Walk Mississippi to lead the statewide effort to increase bicycle and pedestrian related access, education, safety, equity and support by advocating for local and statewide programs, policies, safety and infrastructure for all people who walk, run or ride a bicycle in Mississippi, whether they do so by choice or by need. Bike Walk Mississippi's advocacy work has been featured by the League of American Bicyclists, Bicycling Magazine, People for Bikes, America Walks and was awarded the national "Advocacy Organization of the Year" award in 2013 by the Alliance for Biking and Walking. Our efforts have led to Mississippi's increase from #47 to #32 as a nationally ranked Bicycle Friendly State, increased Complete Streets policies across state, the passage of and continued education surrounding Mississippi's 3 foot safe passing law for bicyclists, increased local control of multimodal funds and an increased focus on the needs of low-income and underserved communities.
As a nonprofit, we rely on donations from individuals, businesses and clubs and we hope you will support our work to continue to provide the necessary tools and resources necessary for advocates, municipal leaders, engineers, planners, like-minded organizations and people just like you to create more bike able, walkable and livable communities across the state of Mississippi.
No matter who you are, on this site, you'll find plenty of resources and tools you can use to take steps toward becoming more walk friendly and bike friendly today!
