The Puketapu Loop
The Puketapu is a short loop that provide cycling enthusiasts with a range of destinations on the list like the Puketapu Pub, the history church, pā (Māori fortified village), gallery and chocolate factory, and a great deal of picnic spots.
Following along the bank of the attractive Tutaekuri River, which is surrounded by the charming orchards, vineyard and farmland. You can start the trail at any spot on the outskirts of Napier, Taradale to the rural region of Puketapu. Visiting the famous feature of the loop at half of the trail is the country pub, and an ice cream store next door as the best recommended. Wanting to get a longer rides, you can begin the rides at Awatoto first, then ride upstream along the River to Taradale and start the loop.
The terrain is flat and suitable for everyone to spin around.
Off the Gloucester Street, you can find many signboards near the entrance of the trail or go to the top of the stop bank to find the start of the trail.
Food and drinks
Treat yourself a wonderful chocolate delight at the Silky Oaks Chocolate Factory and Cafes. Enjoy the graceful Ormile Lodge with a restaurant and accommodation.
The perfect 18km small loop from Taradale offers many spots such as historic Otarara Pa, the Puketapu Pub for a meal, the ice cream store, the charming boutique accommodation at Ormlie Lodge, the great kid playgrounds varies at many stops, and a Waiohiki Creative Arts Village at a Waiohiki Marae. Plenty picnic and swimming spots under the trees could be find off the trail.
The trail could be ride in either directions.
Bike hiring is available around the areas.
