The fancy wineries trail
Coming to Napier and Hasting of the Hawke’s Bay without taking a sip of wine may be the biggest mistake ever. Enjoy special food with wine in a leisure ride from Roys Hill Reserves and then traverse along the road surrounded by dreamy scenery as you can stop occasionally to visit around a dozen of wineries on the line.
It is around 40 km to make a loop through the Gimblett Gravels, Ngatarawa Triangle and Bridge Pā to try out the Bay’s signature such as Chardonnays, Bordeaux-style reds and Syrah. If you take the 11km back-and-forth course to Sileni Estate, you should try out the craft beer from the Roosters Brewery on Omahu Road.
Most of the road is flat except the section of Roys Hill which is 20 meters in height.
As it is a loop trail, there are many spot to start the trail like the Roys Hill Reserve and the Hasting Golf Club. Additionally, the trail may be accessed via iWay city route from Hasting; or Clive by trying out the Ngaruroro River trail.
Food and drinks
There are many fantastic cellar door dining along the route allowing you to try out the specialties of Hawke’s Bay. Not only the wine but the non-alcohol drinks is also worth a try.
The trail is surrounded with an extraordinary views getting from the vineyards, olive groves, orchards and the farmland around the Gimblett Gravels and Ngatarawa Triangle wine growing areas.
