The West Coast of Tasmania is full of adventurous rides and overwhelming panorama that continuously takes you from one incredible surprise to another. Linked between two shack towns of Granville Harbour and Trial Harbour, the coastal Climies track will lead you through one of the most difficult MTB rides in Tasmania. Encountering nearly 1000 meters of climbing with the pinches as steep as 15%, Climies track is recommended for the intermediate to advanced, experienced MTB adventurers.
The trail is an old 4WD route which was left behind because of many broken bridges that now can be used for cyclists and walkers. From Granville Harbor, you'll face the 100m climbs for about 6 kilometers and then the trail will plunge down for the next 7 kilometers where you can take a break for a while before tackling the hardest part of the trail. Facing more creeks after you cross over 2 kilometers to nail the 150 meter climb from Granite Creek, you'll at least enjoy the great scenery!. The trail continue to the end at the Trial Harbor road where you can detour a further 2.5 kilometers then turn around to return where you have come.
You can tackle the sandy trails along with the flowing granite, rocky patches, mud and creeks, together with many hills along this amazing trail.
You can access to the trail in both directions. However, if you just want to take the one-way trip, try to do the route from the South (Trial Harbor) to North (Granville Harbor) as the climb is less steep than the vice versa.
From Zeehan, if you choose to take the Granville – Trial Harbor, turn into Heemskirk Road as the North-West of Zeehan. For 26km from Zeehan, turn left onto the Granville Harbor Road until you meet the T-junction, turn left to move away from the Granville Road for 2 kilometers. Crossing the Tasman Rinver and past the little pullouts to reach to the starting point of the trail.
As if you take the Trial-Granville Harbor way, you could take the same route out from Zeehan, but just for 1 kilometer, turn left onto the Trial Harbor Road and look for the trail head for about 1.5 kilometer on your right from the road junction.
Food and drink
You won't find anything along this trail as it's an old and unused route. Bring a packed lunch and enjoy a picnic at the Grannite Creek.
At Granite Creek, you can enjoy the picturesque waterfall with the rocky sea shore where you can take a dip (if you're brave!) and enjoy a lunch break. You can also choose to take the side trip to the Tunnel at the Trial Harbor. After 850 meters from the trail head of the Trial Harbor road a track heads off towards the coast.
