Eatons Cutting Downhill

This is an extreme level dedicated downhill course constructed by local downhill riders, adjacent to an abandoned quarry. Drop offs, steep sections and jumps throughout the course result in a technically challenging ride, suitable only for highly experienced downhill riders using an appropriate bike and safety gear.

At the time of writing you could see a videoclip of riders using the course on youtube. To access the start of the downhill course, ride up Eatons Cutting for 1.8km then turn right, and right again at the next singletrack.

This brings you to the top of the downhill run in lightly timbered regrowth bush. There is plenty of shade at the top and bottom of the course which creates a pleasant environment for spectators. Do not attempt to ride the downhill unless you are an experienced, properly equipped downhill rider.

Regular users arrange car transport for bikes and rides near the top of the course and do repeated descents in a day.


The ride starts at Eatons Cutting, Dromana, on the Mornington Peninsula, about one and a half hours’ drive to the south-east of Melbourne (Melway map 160). To get there from Melbourne, turn off the Mornington Peninsula freeway at Dromana, then turn left onto Boundary Road. Eatons Cutting is unsigned and is just past the entrance to Dromana quarry. Eatons Cutting has a steel gate. Please do not obstruct the gateway; park opposite on Boundary Road.

Side Trip
