7 Peaks Ride: Mount Baw Baw
Victoria’s 7 Peaks Ride is an at-your-own pace cycling challenge which runs from October to April each year, taking you up winding mountain roads, around steep turns and past spectacular views right to the top of seven Victorian Alpine Resorts.
Details of the Mount Baw Baw:
- Distance 6.5km
- Rise 741m
- Grade Average 11.4%
- Grade Max 20.6%
Short and steep! There's a stunning ride from Noojee and a gentle start to the climb before the official starting point at The Gantry. Now be prepared, this is recognised as one of the hardest climbs in Australia. When you reach the village at the top, the feeling of satisfaction is second only to the views, which are breathtaking if you have any breath left to be taken.
Be prepared for steep - very steep. The way the road ramps up can be scary and the short 6.5km climb does not offer any respite. Winch Corner at 20%+ is the steepest part, but all the pain is worth it when you reach the top! Take care, real care on the descent - what goes up, must come down. Practice riding out of the saddle when you train and give yourself plenty of room when riding in a group.
You can ride this climb outside of the 7 Peaks Challenge, weather permitting.
